[Student Profile] Aileen Heinberg

Posted on November 14, 2012 by David Bogomolny

Aileen Heinberg grew up in a Modern Orthodox community in Brooklyn, NY, and graduated from the Yeshiva of Flatbush, which she’d attended since kindergarten; Torah learning was so woven into the fabric of her environment that she came to take it for granted. Nevertheless, the young woman eventually grew to appreciate Jewish learning as a Continue Reading »

Tuesday!

From my blog: After months of putting it off, I finally made it down to Ein Gedi last Friday. I went with some friends from college park, and we left at 4:30 am to drive down to the hike. As we were passing the dead sea on the drive down, I looked out the car Continue Reading »

[Student Profile] Bruce Shaffer

Posted on October 17, 2012 by David Bogomolny

Bruce Shaffer was raised in an assimilation-bent household in the predominantly Jewish neighborhood of Northwest Detroit, fairly typical of what he saw around him. His curiosity for Jewish learning and Jewish text was seeded at his Hebrew school. There was no core of professional Jewish faculty – Bruce’s teachers were mostly Yiddish-speaking European refugees, and Continue Reading »

Dear my beautiful hair models of Pardes,

Posted on June 2, 2012 by Laura Marder

I want to thank you for making me your official hairdresser this year. The salons in the area were all confused where their Pardes clients had gone! It has been an honor and great experience cutting all of your hair. I did not come into my studies at Pardes thinking that it would be a Continue Reading »

[cross-posted from my blog] Celebrating Pesach in Israel, for only the second time in my life, has definitely been a unique and enjoyable experience.  From the relative lack of restrictions on access to delicious food — since so many of the restaurants in the city stay open with completely kosher-for-Pesach menus — to enjoying a Continue Reading »

Volunteering at Ezer Mizion

Posted on March 4, 2012 by The Director of Digital Media

Last Wednesday, some of our Pardes volunteers went out on the annual Yom Iyun shel Chesed (annual Day of Kindness) to organize their food pantry, make sandwiches and prepare dinners as part of the the 300 meals that Ezer Mizion serves every day. It’s a great place to volunteer… and they’re right here in Jerusalem!

Week 26: Making a Lasting Impression

Posted on March 4, 2012 by Derek Kwait

When I woke up to a snowstorm this morning, I was so happy I could dance. It wasn’t just snow, it was big-flaked, sticky snow, the kind you could make snowballs out of were there enough of it, and it looked for all the world like there would be before too long. I grabbed my Continue Reading »

Today is the annual Pardes Yom Iyum shel Chesed – the Day of Kindness in commemoration of Benjamin Blutstein and Marla Bennett. In a few minutes, the entire Pardes community is going out to do service throughout Israel in honor of these two amazing individuals whose lives were cut so short.

Bring-your-Mom-to-Pardes Day

Posted on February 20, 2012 by Mira

The shift from first semester to second semester started during our week off when half of Pardes went on a tiyul to the Arava desert. I’m not a hiking fan, but I love the desert in Israel and have always felt connected to it. This was a wonderful opportunity for me to reflect on my Continue Reading »
