The day was marked by a cold rain.
I was more afraid of cars splashing me with mud than anything else.
We walked alone, cold, calm.
He thought it was thunder.
My friend said not to worry, it was just thunder.
But no rain clouds came, only the screams of sirens.
The world stopped as the ambulances came through.
No more rain came.
The only thing washed away that day was blood.
Another friend drove with an ambulance.
I asked what he knew, who had died, who would be left alive.
He said he didn’t know so I asked him if he was okay.
His body was okay…he didn’t need to say anymore.
A lot of people would be fighting hard for their lives that day.
We prayed so hard and so long for rain.
The rain has finally come but the storm is only beginning.
